The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation’s largest wartime veteran’s service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members and veterans. The American Legion’s success depends entirely on active membership, participation and volunteerism. The organization belongs to the people it serves and the communities in which it thrives.
Locally in San Jacinto County The American Legion Harold G Davis Post 629 offers several volunteer opportunities through The American Legion Auxiliary, the American Legion Riders, and The Sons of the American Legion where you can join even if you did not serve. There is room for all to come and be a part of a 101 year old tradition that serves our community.
In November, they have several events planned for the community. On Wednesday November 11, they will be celebrating Veterans Day and would like to invite all service members past and present to come for a free meal. On Saturday November 14, they will be hosting USWX Pro Wrestling. Bell time is 6 pm, but come early for pre-events, and admission is only $5. On Thanksgiving day, they will be hosting a free meal to all first responders to thank them for their service to our community. Every Thursday night at 7 pm they host a dart tournament with a $5 entry fee, and every Friday night there is Karaoke beginning at 7 pm.
